Department of Special Education

Department of Special Education Mentally Handicapped Education Programme started its activities in 2009-2010 with 30 students. With the change made in the 2016-2017 academic year, the Teaching of Mental Disabilities Programme was renamed as Special Education Teaching Programme and students are admitted with a quota of 50 students every year. The aim of the programme is to contribute to the training of qualified teachers, science experts and academicians who will carry out the education of individuals with special needs at pre-school and primary education levels. The academic staff consists of 1 associate professor, 4 doctoral faculty members and 5 research assistants.

Graduates of the Special Education Teaching Programme can be appointed as special education teachers in special education schools within the scope of the Ministry of National Education, General Directorate of Special Education and Guidance Services. In addition to teaching in special education schools, our graduates can work as special education teachers in Guidance Research Centres. In addition, our graduates can work in Private Special Education and Rehabilitation Centres.
